On Tuesday November 15th, Previtera & Schimmel Partner Diana Schimmel Avena, attended (and spoke) at the first annual Making Divorce Healthier Symposium. Held at picturesque Normandy Farms Conference Center, 130 like-minded divorce professionals met to discuss making the process healthier and more beneficial for clients and divorcing parties.
The interdisciplinary attendees represented members from the worlds of family law, mediation, mental health, coaching, fianance and the bench. Unlike a traditional CLE or meeting, the program was made to energize and create positive learning and interaction.
Guests were welcomed by Dr. William Doherty who spoke on his research with discernment counseling, a revolutionary way to start the process of divorce. Such work encourages parties to really look at what has brought them to the brink of divorce and mindfully decide to either stay together or proceed to file.
Next, participants split into breakout sessions designed to mix their disciplines. Session leaders consisted of a memeber from two or more of the fields present and provided a look into how we can all make divorce healthier as practitioners.
The afternoon rounded out with roundtable discussions. Each discipline had its own topics to posit. Diana Schimmel Avena lead her discussion on building the best legal practice. Her comments sparked lively discussion from attorneys with a range of experience and geographic practice areas.
The program was the brain child of Main Line Family Law Center, and specifically Sharon and Cris Pastore along with Adina Laver. Over all, the program exceeded expectations and left guests energized.
Previtera & Schimmel is already looking forward to the next symposium!
