Helping Clients Through Divorce and Family Transitions

Family Law Attorney Julie Colin, Esq.Julie Colin is a seasoned family law attorney with more than 30 years of courtroom and client advocacy experience. She helps individuals navigate divorce and the full range of family law issues, including custody disputes, parental rights, and private adoptions. Her approach blends assertive legal strategy with practical guidance and emotional insight, especially in high-conflict custody cases where clarity and calm are essential.

Focused on the Best Interests of the Child

Julie has a particular passion for custody matters, especially those involving co-parenting challenges or the emotional toll of separation on children. Known for her ability to explain the law in plain terms and help clients weigh their goals against likely outcomes, she brings both perspective and reassurance during difficult times.

A Practical, Supportive Advocate

Clients appreciate Julie’s directness, availability, and steady presence. As she often tells them, “If you’re up at night worrying, call me. I’ll help you sleep.” She is comfortable going to trial when necessary but focuses on helping clients make thoughtful, informed decisions that protect their children and promote long-term peace of mind.

A Strong Foundation of Legal Experience

Before focusing exclusively on family law, Julie practiced civil litigation and held senior roles in both private firms and insurance companies. She has also taught trial advocacy and family law as an adjunct professor, helping the next generation of lawyers develop the skills they need to advocate effectively.

She holds a J.D., cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she ranked second in her class, and a B.S., cum laude, from the University of Maryland. She earned an advanced certification in family law from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Community Connections and Volunteer Work

When she’s not advocating for families, Julie volunteers with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and supports outreach programs for underserved children and foster youth. Her commitment to service extends beyond the courtroom into the community, where she has organized coat drives, contributed to food access initiatives, and partnered with local organizations to promote child wellness and safety. She is the proud parent of three adult children and lives on a small farm where she fosters aging rescue dogs and continues to give back through advocacy and care.
